TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Government approved the bid for the "Banqiao Station New Entrance Project" on Friday (March 14), which aims to improve the transfer system between the Circular Line Banqiao Station (環狀線板橋站) and other major rail lines. The new entrance, located at East Gate 1 of Banqiao Train Station (板橋火車站), will reduce transfer times from 12 minutes to just five.
Passengers currently face a complex transfer process between the Banqiao Station (板橋站) on the Bannan Line (板南線) and the Circular Line, which involves multiple routes and a 20-minute transfer fare integration. This upgrade will benefit around 30,000 passengers daily. New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems Director Lee Cheng-an (李政安) emphasized the importance of this project, highlighting the high daily passenger flow and the need to enhance service efficiency by adding a second entrance.
The new entrance will feature a three-story ground-level structure equipped with accessible facilities and is set for completion in 2027. Upon opening, passengers will be able to transfer from the Taiwan Railways' underground level to the first floor, proceed to the new entrance at East Gate 1, and reach the Circular Line platform using elevators, escalators, or stairs.
