NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced on Thursday (March 6) that the city government will take over the MRT Tucheng (土城) to Shulin (樹林) line project. The Department of Rapid Transit Systems (新北市政府捷運局) confirmed that a platform meeting has been established to facilitate the handover process for this critical infrastructure.
The Tucheng-Shulin MRT line spans 13.3 kilometers and features two underground stations and 11 elevated stations. As of late February, the project had reached 34.9% completion. The New Taipei City's Rapid Transit Department reported that construction for the Tucheng underground section, known as CQ880A, commenced on March 1 last year and is currently undergoing pipeline relocation.
The Tucheng elevated section, CQ880B, did not receive any bids on Feb. 27, prompting the dual-city MRT bureau to schedule a review meeting to reassess the budget and reissue the tender. Meanwhile, construction of the Shulin section, CQ890, began on Nov. 11, 2022, with foundational and column structures underway.
Hou emphasized Xinzhuang's (新莊) vital role in population and transportation, urging the central government to expedite approval for the Wugu (五股) to Taishan (泰山) Light Rail and its connection to the Taishan (泰山) to Banqiao (板橋) Light Rail.
According to the bureau's website, the Taishan-Banqiao Light Rail will stretch 10.3 kilometers, incorporate 14 stations and one depot, and link Wugu-Taishan's terminus with Banqiao, Tucheng, and Zhonghe's (中和) agricultural zones.
