TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A spell of sunny weather is set to grace Taiwan on Monday (March 10), with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius from March 10 to 12. Meteorologist Wu De-rong (吳德榮), writing for National Central University (中央大學), noted that a warm air mass will dominate the region, promising mostly clear skies. However, fog is likely to blanket the western half, with occasional light rain in eastern areas.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) has issued a dense fog advisory, alerting that regions from Tainan (台南) northward and Matsu (馬祖) could face reduced visibility due to localized fog or low clouds. Visibility in Miaoli (苗栗) has already dipped below 200 meters, and Taoyuan (桃園) is experiencing similar conditions.
Wu forecasts that the warm air mass will linger through March 11-12, maintaining high temperatures and fog in the west, while cloud cover moves into the northern coast and mountains, bringing sporadic rain. He anticipates a shift starting March 13, as a front near the northern coast ushers in slightly cooler yet still warm temperatures, with potential showers or thunderstorms. Wu warns of possible severe weather, including lightning and strong winds.
Looking ahead, Wu projects that by March 15, a cold air mass will move south, causing temperatures to drop sharply, nearing the standards of a strong continental cold air mass by the evening of March 16. From March 17-19, Taiwan will likely experience dry and cold conditions, with a chance of a cold wave. Starting March 19, the cold air mass will begin to weaken, leading to a gradual temperature rise.
Wu advises close monitoring of international weather models for further predictions and any necessary adjustments.
