TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced on Friday (March 7) that a new wave of the Huanan Cloud System (華南雲雨區) has moved eastward, increasing rainfall across Taiwan, with the heaviest downpours in northern Taiwan. The agency forecasts continued rain over the weekend, impacting Taoyuan and areas north and east on Saturday with sporadic showers.
On Sunday, Keelung's northern coast and eastern regions will experience scattered showers, while the Greater Taipei area and mountainous regions north of central Taiwan may see isolated rain. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) explained that a continental cold air mass will bring damp and chilly conditions to regions north of central Taiwan, with temperatures in some northern lowlands dropping to around 11 degrees Celsius.
The CWA noted that the continental cold air mass will affect northern and northeastern areas on Saturday, with temperatures ranging from 14 to 19 degrees Celsius, central regions from 14 to 24 degrees, and Matsu from 9 to 13 degrees. The cold air mass will weaken by Sunday, allowing temperatures to rise, though mornings and evenings will remain cool. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and prepare for the cold conditions, particularly in northern Taiwan.
