TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) released a heavy rain advisory early Wednesday (March 5) as a front moves across Taiwan, bringing a chance of localized heavy rain to 20 counties and cities. Meteorologists urge residents in northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan to remain vigilant for short-duration heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong gusts.
Forecasters predict that some lowland areas in northern Taiwan may see temperatures drop to around 10 degrees. The cold air is expected to peak Thursday evening and Friday morning. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted that northern Taiwan will feel particularly damp and cold until Sunday morning due to the cold air mass.
The CWA forecasts that the continental cold air mass will weaken from Sunday daytime, allowing temperatures to rise. Keelung's northern coast, the Greater Taipei region, and eastern areas may experience brief showers. Wu highlighted that from Sunday daytime to next Wednesday (March 12), a strengthening warm air mass will lead to clear, stable weather, with fog likely in many areas.
On Wednesday, daytime highs will range from 19 to 20 degrees in northern and northeastern Taiwan, 23 to 25 degrees in central and eastern Taiwan, and 26 to 29 degrees in southern Taiwan. Temperatures will drop further after nightfall. On the outlying islands, Penghu will see 16 to 20 degrees, Kinmen 13 to 17 degrees, and Matsu 9 to 12 degrees, prompting residents to adjust their attire accordingly.
