TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) emphasized on Tuesday (March 4) Taiwan's commitment to strengthening trade and industrial collaboration with the U.S., focusing on artificial intelligence and advanced semiconductor technology.
President Lai assured that Taiwan maintains robust communication channels and cooperative relations with the new U.S. administration, aiming to deepen these ties amid policy shifts. Taiwan also intends to expand investments in and procurements from the U.S. to balance bilateral trade and encourage local businesses to invest more in the U.S, according to the president.
Also, President Lai acknowledged existing global economic risks but stressed Taiwan's crucial position in the supply chain. He believes emerging technologies like AI will bolster export and investment momentum. Aiming to broaden eligibility for global Taiwanese businesses and foreign investors announced the extension of the "Invest Taiwan" program initiatives until 2027, focusing on five key trust industries and the health sector.
Moreover, Lai added that the government plans to invest NT$11.6 billion in a diverse revitalization plan for small and medium enterprises, fostering digital and net-zero transformations. He highlighted the pivotal role of businesses in Taiwan's economy, noting last year's 4.3% economic growth rate as the highest in three years, attributing this success to the collective efforts of enterprises and citizens.
