TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL, 中華職棒聯盟) Commissioner Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) apologized on Monday (March 3) for Team Taiwan's violation of electronic device rules during the World Baseball Classic (WBC) qualifiers.
Last week, Team Taiwan defeated Spain in the WBC qualifiers, securing a spot in the main tournament. However, the WBC imposed a fine due to the unauthorized use of electronic devices, resulting in a NT$660,000 (around US$20,000) penalty for the CPBL.
The CPBL explained that the violation occurred when personnel assisting with equipment used a phone in an office.
Commissioner Tsai emphasized the need for a thorough review and improvement to prevent similar incidents in future international competitions. The league has committed to paying the fine and enhancing education to ensure compliance.
