TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) celebrated Team Taiwan's (台灣隊) advancement in the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers (WBCQ) on Tuesday (Feb. 25) by congratulating the team in a Facebook post.

He praised the players for showcasing Taiwan's spirit at the Taipei Dome, courageously defending their home ground as Team Taiwan secured a spot in the 2026 World Baseball Classic by defeating Spain 6-3.

 

President Lai emphasized Taiwan's spirit, stating it embodies resilience and determination, declaring, "We are Team Taiwan!" Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) also expressed gratitude to Head Coach Tseng Hao-jiu (曾豪駒) and Chinese Professional Baseball League Commissioner Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) for their efforts. He commended their swift preparation for the qualifiers following last year's Premier12 tournament.

Cho noted that Team Taiwan's players began their spring training early, engaging in high-intensity international competitions and representing the hope of a new generation of Taiwanese baseball. He also thanked the nation's fans for their passionate support, highlighting it as a testament to the country's heroes and the indomitable spirit of Taiwanese baseball.

 
With Team Taiwan's success, the stage is set for an exciting journey in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, promising to inspire and unite fans across the nation.
