TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Zhuang Chen Zhong-ao (莊陳仲敖), the starting pitcher for Team Taiwan, credited a "lucky die" for the World Baseball Classic (WBC) qualifiers win on Tuesday (Feb. 25). The die, which Zhuang Chen held during the game, became a symbol of good fortune and attracted significant attention as Taiwan's baseball team defeated Spain 6-3 to clinch a spot in the WBC.
In addition, the dice featured in the Domino's Pizza (達美樂) logo attracted attention during the game. Initially showing dots with values of 1 and 2, Domino's changed the dice to display six dots for this game, as the number 6 is considered lucky in Taiwan. Fans humorously remarked that this change "saved Taiwan."
Ben Oborne, Domino's CEO, and employees rallied behind Taiwan, holding the modified dice to cheer the team. After the victory, Domino's social media team thanked Taiwan, declaring the marketing campaign a resounding success. Many fans believe the dice played a crucial role in the win and hope to see it used in future international competitions.
