TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 中國國民黨) Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) called for unity and reflection at Taipei's 228 Peace Memorial Park (二二八和平紀念公園) on Thursday. (Feb. 27). He emphasized the importance of collective efforts for peace, urging humility from those in power.
Chu remarked that the KMT must reflect on its past mistakes. He added that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民主進步黨), as the ruling party, should also address public concerns and social issues with humility.
Furthermore, Chu highlighted the significance of the 228 incident and that its memorial serves as a reminder of the importance of peace, mentioning the DPP and President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) to collaborate on significant policies to advance Taiwan's progress and urging society to avoid conflicts and division.
Hung Hsien-chao (洪顯詔), representing the 228 Incident families, echoed the call for peace. He stressed the need to remember history without inciting social unrest, urging society to move forward.
The KMT held a memorial and remembrance ceremony before the 228 Peace Memorial Day with participation from several KMT officials and representatives of the 228 Incident families.
