TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The opposition Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) convened a legislative seminar in Taipei on Monday (Feb. 24) to outline its 13 priority bills for the upcoming legislative session. These bills focus on livelihood issues, including an amendment to the "Implementation Rule of Holidays and Festivals" and a proposal to distribute NT$10,000 in cash to citizens. KMT Chairman Eric Chu (朱立倫) stated that these initiatives are central to the party's agenda this session.

The new legislative session, starting Tuesday (Feb. 25), will see the KMT pushing several key proposals. The party plans to elevate the status of holidays and festivals by adding new commemorative days. It also aims to amend the "Housing Act" (住宅法) to ensure that 50% of social housing is rented to disadvantaged groups, with relaxed eligibility for families with minor children.

Additionally, the KMT will propose a special act for cash distribution from tax surplus and amend the "Budget Act" (預算法) to mandate cash returns when tax revenues exceed 120% of budget estimates. The party will also address nuclear energy regulations and climate change by advocating for a "zero-carbon homeland."

The KMT's legislative agenda further includes labor rights for delivery workers, school lunch regulations, fraud penalties, and amendments to the "Sports Industry Development Act" (運動產業發展條例) to provide sales tax exemption for tickets to sporting events.

Chu emphasized the importance of addressing AI, trade, and economic issues, expressing willingness to collaborate with the Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) on legislation relating to people's livelihoods.
