TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Legislator Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀) announced Monday (Jan. 13) that the Presidential Office has notified her of an upcoming meeting with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), adding that a delegation will visit the Presidential Office on Thursday (Jan. 16) to discuss their diplomatic mission to the U.S.
President Lai recently invited Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) to lead the delegation attending the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. Lee noted that the meeting aims to prepare for the trip and acknowledge the delegation's efforts. Lee emphasized that while the delegation consists of legislators, the focus of the meeting will not be on legislative issues. She commented that the meeting will likely occur in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
Also, Lee suggested that President Lai, as the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨), could initiate a summit for dialogue among party leaders. She also proposed a national conference for seeking public opinion as a state leader. The meeting on Thursday will set the stage for the delegation's participation in the inauguration and engagements in Washington, D.C. The discussions might improve communication and dialogue, reflecting on Taiwan's diplomatic strategies with the U.S.
