TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) announced on Wednesday (Jan. 2) that Taiwan will send an eight-member delegation to attend U.S. President-elect Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20. Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) will lead the delegation as the special envoy, visiting the U.S. from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24.
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) invited Han to head the delegation, which includes representatives from Taiwan's major political parties. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) will send Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) of the Foreign and National Defense Committee (外交及國防委員會) and Legislator Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷). Moreover, the Taiwan People's Party will be represented by Chen Gau-tzu (陳昭姿), while the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) will send Lee Yen-hsiu (李彥秀) and Ko Ju-chun (葛如鈞).
Lin emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部), particularly the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (駐美國臺北經濟文化代表處), organized the delegation under President Lai's directive. Lin stated that the delegation represents the government's bipartisan commitment to U.S.-Taiwan relations and congratulates the Trump administration. He noted the tight timeframe and expressed hope for no further changes.
