TAIPEI (TVBS News) — U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will officially assume office on Jan. 20, 2025, prompting Taiwan's Legislative Yuan to prepare for the event. Legislative Yuan (立法院) urged political parties to nominate representatives for the 60th U.S. presidential inauguration delegation on Tuesday (Dec. 24).
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has appointed Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) to lead the delegation to the U.S. inauguration. Although the Presidential Office (總統府) and the MOFA have yet to make a formal announcement, the Legislative Yuan has already received official documentation from the MOFA.
The Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) caucus has informed its members that those interested in attending must register by 4 p.m. Wednesday. If the number of interested legislators exceeds the spots available, a lottery will determine the final participants at 5 p.m.
The Legislative Yuan's International Affairs Office (國際事務處) has requested the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨), KMT, and Taiwan People's Party (TPP, 民眾黨) to nominate representatives. The KMT and DPP will each send two legislators, while the TPP will send one. Han will head the cross-party delegation, visiting the U.S. from Jan. 18 to 24, 2025.
