TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (民主進步黨) legislator Lin Yueh-chin (林月琴) filed an assault complaint against Kuomintang (中國國民黨) legislator Chen Yu-jen (陳玉珍) at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office (台北地檢署) on Monday (Dec. 9). Lin accused Chen of violent shoving, slamming, and kicking during a heated brawl in the Legislative Yuan (立法院) last Friday.
The scuffle erupted over amendments to the election and recall law, resulting in multiple injuries and a stalled session. Lin pointed out that she, who has dedicated 30 years to child welfare, has zero tolerance for violence. She stated past encouragement to victims to bravely face violence during my service in NGOs, underscoring her commitment to confront violence in all forms.
After two days of contemplation, Lin decided to press charges to curb parliamentary violence and send a message to future generations that even lawmakers cannot resort to violence. Lin declared her intent to pursue the case with the help of a lawyer, providing video evidence and medical reports. She affirmed that she would never back down and would use this lawsuit to stop the violence and set the record straight.
This legal action could mark a significant step in addressing legislative violence in Taiwan, setting a precedent for accountability among lawmakers.
