TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A devastating gas explosion rocked the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store (新光三越百貨) in Taichung City on Thursday (Feb. 13), resulting in multiple casualties and sending shockwaves across Taiwan.
The incident has prompted an immediate response from Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), who ordered inspections of department stores in Taipei City to ensure safety.
Mayor Chiang has mobilized all city departments to support Taichung City in its disaster relief efforts.
He urged local residents to avoid the area surrounding Shin Kong Mitsukoshi to facilitate rescue operations. Mayor Chiang expressed his condolences to vincitms and blessing to injured patients.
