TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported a noticeable temperature rise on Tuesday (Jan. 21) as a strong continental cold air mass weakened. Earlier that morning, radiation cooling caused temperatures to drop significantly across the region, prompting advisories for warmth and safety.
In western Taiwan, Yilan, Kinmen, and Matsu, temperatures dipped to 10-14 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing lows below 10°C. Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu saw morning lows of 15-16°C. Daytime highs ranged from 19-22°C in the north and east and 24-25°C in central and southern regions.
Penghu experienced daytime temperatures of 15-19°C, Kinmen 11-19°C, and Matsu 10-14°C. The administration warned of significant temperature differences between day and night in western areas, emphasizing the need for warmth during early mornings and nights.
Weather conditions remained clear to partly cloudy, with occasional rain in the eastern regions. The administration advised vigilance due to potential weather changes. Strong gusts, reaching levels 8-9, were expected in the coastal areas from Taoyuan to Yunlin, Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu, Orchid Island (蘭嶼), and Green Island (綠島).
