TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) has forecasted a chance of snowfall in mountains above 3,500 meters in central and northern Taiwan from Wednesday (Jan. 15) night to early Thursday, urging caution for those engaging in mountain activities. Officials warn of icy roads as a continental cold air mass and a southerly rain belt shift northward, bringing wet and cold weather across the island.

The weather on Wednesday will remain rainy, though the precipitation will not be heavy. Temperatures are expected to range from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 11 to 19 degrees in central regions, 13 to 21 degrees in the south, and 14 to 20 degrees in the Hualien and Taitung areas. Authorities remind residents to stay warm as the cold air continues to affect the island.

By Thursday, drier and colder air will move south, reducing moisture and bringing clear skies to the western regions, while the east may see occasional rain. The cold air mass will persist until early Friday. Starting Friday daytime, the cold air will weaken, leading to drier conditions and allowing temperatures to rise during the day, though radiation cooling will keep mornings and evenings chilly. Most areas will experience clear to partly cloudy skies, with brief rain possible in eastern parts.
