TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) committed Wednesday (Jan. 15) to controlling the consumer price index (CPI) this year, aiming for a reduction to 1.8% to 1.9%, emphasizing the importance of a stable living environment for entrepreneurs.
He expressed this goal during a ceremony for the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association, R.O.C. (全國創新創業總會), highlighting Taiwan's leading economic growth rate among the Four Asian Tigers last year, noting stable CPI control. He reiterated the government's support for startups, calling them a new force in the economic sector, and vowed that the government will continue to promote policies that foster economic development.
The president mentioned legislative revisions in the works to offer tax deductions for entrepreneurs, further supporting their ventures. He stressed the government's concern for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with the Executive Yuan promoting digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and net-zero transition strategies. Lai also stated the government's determination to adjust tax policies and establish a single service window to enhance administrative efficiency.
The National Development Council (國家發展委員會) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) will continue to support startups in specific regions, aiming to boost various industries and enhance Taiwan's economy, Lai said. As Taiwan looks to the future, these initiatives promise to provide a robust foundation for sustained economic growth and innovation.
