TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) and Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) on Thursday (Dec. 26) urged the central government to continue providing free domestic milk to students, highlighting its significance for children's health. Chiang pointed out that similar milk policies in Japan have increased average height. The mayor stressed that he has discussed technical issues with major retailers and secured their support.

Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) acknowledged the policy's suspension but encouraged local governments to assume responsibility under local autonomy. Michelle Lee (李慧芝), spokesperson for the Executive Yuan (行政院), noted that frontline teaching units and parents have expressed various opinions on the policy. The Ministry of Agriculture (農業部) and Ministry of Education (教育部) continue to collect feedback and engage in discussions.

The Executive Yuan reported mixed opinions since the policy's implementation three months ago, with particular challenges in rural areas requiring tailored solutions. Cho emphasized the importance of children's nutrition and expressed satisfaction with local leaders advocating similar views, encouraging efforts by local governments to ensure children's health.
