TAINAN (TVBS News) — Sung Chih-tsung (宋秩宗), a table tennis player with a striking resemblance to Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), captivated audiences at the Standard Chem and Pharm Co.'s Standard Cup National Table Tennis Championships in Tainan City (台南市) on Sunday (Dec. 15). His likeness to the political figure sparked lively discussions among spectators.
The championship, held from Dec. 13 to 15 at the Tainan Municipal Xinying Stadium (新營體育館), attracted 290 teams and 1,941 participants. Sung competed in the men's social group team event, where his appearance, smile, and signature expressions closely mirrored those of Ko Wen-je. This resemblance earned him the nickname "Ping Pong Ko P" (乒乓柯P).
Sung, 68, is an enthusiastic table tennis player from the Tainan Fu-Cheng Table Tennis Association (府城桌球協會). A former senior engineer at the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部), he now dedicates his retirement to the sport. For this event, he teamed up with doctors from Shanhua District's (善化區) clinics, bringing both skill and entertainment to the competition.
As the tournament concluded, Sung's unexpected spotlight moment highlighted the unique intersections between sports and politics and added an extra layer of intrigue to the event.
