TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Google revealed on Tuesday (Dec. 10) that "earthquake" and "typhoon" topped the list of fastest-rising search terms in Taiwan's 2024 search rankings, based on search volume spikes from December 2023 to late November 2024.
The rankings also featured "Ko Wen-je" (柯文哲), "Olympics," and "U.S. presidential election" in the third to fifth positions. Attracted by high dividends, many people searched for Exchange-Traded Funds (ETF), with the Yuanta Taiwan Value High Dividend ETF (元大台灣價值高息ETF) coded 00940 securing the sixth spot.
The seventh to tenth positions included Taiwanese Olympic boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷), the concert ticketing platform tixCraft (拓元), the Taiwanese film "The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon" (周處除三害), and the WBSC Premier12 baseball tournament (世界棒球12強賽).
In addition, users often turn to Google for answers to unfamiliar terms. This year, the fastest-rising "meaning" keywords encompassed new internet slang, entertainment culture content, and political terminology. Topping this list, "M3" combines Chinese and English sounds, resembling the phrase "You know what I'm saying?" to confirm comprehension.
