TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Taiwan Affairs Office (國台辦) on Wednesday (Dec. 11) criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) for allegedly using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電) to curry favor with the U.S. During a routine press conference, Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) remarked that the DPP's actions could weaken Taiwan's industrial advantages.
Zhu expressed concern over potential U.S. requests for TSMC to relocate its advanced processes to America. She emphasized that if the DPP continues to "sell out Taiwan without limits," Taiwan might lose its industrial edge and face abandonment by the U.S. once its value is exhausted. Zhu further mocked the DPP's reliance on the U.S. for independence, suggesting that TSMC might eventually become the "American Semiconductor Manufacturing Company."
In related news, Kuomintang (國民黨) Legislator Chen Yu-jen (陳玉珍) recently led a delegation to Kinmen (金門) to explore its potential as a financial pilot zone for cross-strait collaboration. In response, the Taiwan Affairs Office expressed willingness to work with Kinmen residents to explore new paths for financial integration and share opportunities arising from mainland China's economic reforms.
Zhu noted the 2009 financial cooperation agreement between China's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (中國海峽兩岸關係協會) and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (台灣海峽交流基金會), has already established a framework for financial regulatory and monetary clearing mechanisms between the two sides.
