TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) on Wednesday (Dec. 11) accused Beijing of undermining cross-strait stability. The ruling party cited China's longstanding military intimidation and disregard for Taiwan's sovereignty as primary destabilizing factors. According to the DPP's Department of China Affairs (中國部), the Chinese military has designated seven airspace zones off Zhejiang (浙江) and Fujian (福建) and deployed vessels near Taiwan's waters.

The department stated that since 2016, Taiwan has extended goodwill through policies and appointments, yet Beijing has yet to reciprocate. The Chinese government has unilaterally severed travel and cultural exchanges, halting individual and group visits, barring artists from the Golden Horse Awards (金馬獎), and banning Taiwanese agricultural and fishery products. President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has maintained a consistent cross-strait policy, emphasizing goodwill and commitment under Taiwan's constitutional framework.

The department highlighted China's verbal bullying and military posturing as harmful to cross-strait relations and damaging to the sentiments of the Taiwanese people. On Dec. 6, President Lai urged China to cease military threats and return to international norms to earn global respect. The department called on China to stop its hostile military intimidation and support dignified, orderly dialogue between the two sides. The DPP expressed that, should China abandon its irrational pressure on Taiwan, both governments could engage in friendly exchanges and work together for the well-being of people on both sides of the strait.
