TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Taiwan Affairs Office (國台辦) announced on Wednesday (Dec. 11) that former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) will visit Harbin (哈爾濱) later this month. The office welcomed Ma's visit and promised comprehensive arrangements for the trip. From Dec. 18 to 26, Ma will lead a youth Taiwanese delegation to visit China.
Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) revealed that Ma's itinerary includes attending the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival (哈爾濱國際冰雪節) and visiting Chengdu (成都) in Sichuan (四川). Zhu highlighted China's rich history and culture, describing it as the shared homeland of people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. She expressed hopes for increased exchanges among youth to promote traditional Chinese culture.
This trip marks Ma's third visit to mainland China, following his previous visits in March to April 2023 and early April 2024. During the second Ma-Xi meeting, Ma met with General Secretary Xi Jinping (習近平) in Beijing on April 10, 2024. This visit will be Ma's first to China's northeastern region, adding a new dimension to his efforts in fostering cross-strait relations.
