TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the centennial of the National Palace Museum (NPM, 故宮) approaches, the institution's director expressed cautious optimism about cross-strait cultural exchanges on Thursday (Oct. 24).
During a legislative session, NPM Director Hsiao Tsung-huang (蕭宗煌) addressed inquiries from legislator Lin Chien-chi (林倩綺) regarding the possibility of renewing cultural exchanges between the museums on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Hsiao stated that predicting the future development of cross-strait relations "is not something I can foresee," while artifact exchanges remain unfeasible, academic exchanges have continued.
Regarding the exchange of cultural and creative products, Hsiao highlighted the severe infringement issue in China. He suggested that if an effective mechanism could regulate the distribution of these products and establish mutual trust, "there should be no problem" in facilitating such exchanges.
