TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan experienced sporadic showers in the northeast and eastern regions and on the northern coast of Keelung (基隆) on Wednesday (Dec. 4), including Greater Taipei (大臺北), as the northeast monsoon influenced the weather. WeatherRisk analyst Lin Hsiao-ju (林孝儒) expects a noticeable strengthening of the northeast monsoon over the weekend, potentially reaching the edge of a cold air mass.
Lin explained that the weather in Taiwan would remain under the influence of the northeast monsoon from northern high pressure, leading to a clear distinction between the north and south. The central and southern regions will enjoy stable weather, ranging from sunny to partly cloudy, with temperatures between 25-30 degrees Celsius during the day and 18-20°C at night.
In contrast, the north and eastern parts of Taiwan will experience more cloud cover, resulting in overcast conditions with daytime highs of 21-24°C and nighttime lows of 15-18°C. The northern coast to the northeast corner and Yilan (宜蘭) area are particularly susceptible to topographical rainfall.
With the northeast monsoon expected to strengthen significantly by the weekend, the windward areas may see expanded rainfall and further temperature drops. The Central Weather Bureau forecasts cooler weather in the north and northeast, with temperatures ranging from 13-23°C in the north and northeast, 14-26°C in the central region, and varying degrees across other areas.
