TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) on Monday (Oct. 28) announced that a strengthened northeast monsoon will likely bring significant rainfall to northern and northeastern Taiwan.
The south, along with Hualien and Taitung, may experience scattered showers, while central areas and the islands of Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu remain mostly cloudy to sunny. Afternoon showers could occur, particularly in southern mountainous regions, where authorities urge caution due to the risk of landslides and falling rocks.
Cooler temperatures will prevail in the north and Matsu, with highs between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius. Other regions, including Penghu and Kinmen, can expect warmer temperatures of 27 to 30 degrees Celsius, providing a comfortable climate.
Strong gusts, reaching levels 8 to 9, will affect coastal areas from central Taiwan northwards and Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), Green Island (綠島), Orchid Island (蘭嶼), Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Large waves are anticipated in nearby seas, with a chance of long waves along the southwest and southeast coasts, including Penghu. Authorities advise caution for coastal activities.
The Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) reported that air quality remains "good" in the north, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu. Meanwhile, central Taiwan, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Matsu, and Kinmen will experience "moderate" air quality.
