TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory on Monday (Oct. 14) afternoon, warning residents of potential downpours in several regions. The advisory affects mountainous areas in Taichung City (臺中市), Nantou County (南投縣), Chiayi County (嘉義縣), and Kaohsiung City (高雄市), as well as Tainan City (臺南市). The CWA cautioned that the rain will persist from the afternoon into the evening.
The CWA attributed the weather conditions to the development of convective cloud systems, which could lead to short-duration heavy rainfall. It warned of localized heavy rain in the Tainan area and the mountainous regions of Taichung, Nantou, Chiayi, and Kaohsiung. The CWA advised residents to remain vigilant against lightning, strong gusts, landslides, falling rocks, and rising stream water in mountainous areas, while low-lying regions should prepare for potential flooding.
The prevailing easterly winds have resulted in mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies across Taiwan, Penghu (澎湖), Kinmen (金門), and Matsu (馬祖), with a minor chance of scattered showers along Keelung's (基隆) north coast and in the northeast. Afternoon thunderstorms may occur in mountainous and southern near-mountain areas, but the rainfall is expected to be brief and limited in scope.
Temperatures will remain warm, with nighttime and early morning lows between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius across Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Daytime highs will reach around 27°C in Matsu, while other areas can expect temperatures between 30 to 33°C, providing a warm and slightly hot feeling.
