TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's People Party (TPP, 民眾黨) confirmed on Wed. (Oct. 9) that it received an invitation from the National Day Preparatory Committee headed by Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu. The party expressed gratitude to the speaker for reserving a seat for Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) at the upcoming National Day ceremony.
Han also extended a special invitation to Ko's wife, Chen Pei-chi (陳佩琪), for the evening gala the previous Saturday (Oct. 5). Chen reportedly declined Han's invitation, citing her mental health and a desire not to affect others' enjoyment.
Meanwhile, due to Ko's detention over the Taipei Core Pacific City development scandal, he missed the gala and will miss the National Day ceremony on Oct. 10, according to party officials. Celina Wu (吳怡萱), the TPP's spokesperson, confirmed receiving the invitation and thanked Han for his courtesy.
Wu stated that Ko has consistently upheld unity and inclusivity, insisting on attending important national celebrations despite challenges. The party remains committed to its role in opposition oversight.
