NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Juming Museum (朱銘美術館) announced Monday (Oct. 7) that Typhoon Krathon's peripheral circulation severely damaged many artworks, prompting an urgent appeal for donations to aid recovery efforts.
The museum described the flooding as the most severe in its 25-year history, affecting both outdoor and storage exhibits, and has temporarily closed to assess the damage.
Museum officials emphasized that the Juming Museum, housing the lifelong creations of artist Ju Ming (朱銘), serves as a public asset for all to enjoy. They stressed the immediate need to undertake restoration and preservation of the collection. Initial estimates reveal that 86 outdoor pieces and 50 storage items suffered damage due to the floodwaters, with assessments still ongoing.
The museum is urging the public to join a "Friends of Juming" (朱銘之友) donation program, which requires contributing NT$1,000 each to support restoring its original state and safeguarding these invaluable cultural assets.
