NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君) announced on Sunday (Oct. 6) that the Ministry of Culture (MOC, 文化部) is actively assisting in the restoration efforts at the Juming Museum (朱銘美術館).
Typhoon Krathon caused heavy rain in Jinshan District (金山區), leading to severe flooding at the museum.
Cheng and Culture Minister Li Yuan (李遠) surveyed the damage, noting that 86 outdoor artworks suffered damage. The outdoor ecological pond helped mitigate flooding, protecting nearby residences.
Cheng thanked the museum staff for their efforts and stated that the government would classify the damage under natural disaster relief, allowing the museum to apply for emergency assistance grants.
Some buildings in the park are classified as monuments under the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act (文化資產保存法), so restoration must follow regulations. The Culture Affairs Department of the New Taipei City Government (新北市政府文化局) will conduct initial assessments.
Cheng emphasized the importance of maintaining Juming's artistic influence, describing it as a crucial aspect of reconstructing Taiwan's art history.
In response to climate change, Cheng plans to collaborate with the Executive Yuan (行政院) and the New Taipei City Government to evaluate including flood control projects in the 2025 budget.
