TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A seasoned media professional stated on Monday (Oct. 7) that his views align entirely with President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) statement on cross-strait relations during the National Day gala.
The National Day gala occurred Saturday at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋), where President Lai declared that the People's Republic of China (PRC, 中華人民共和國), which recently turned 75, cannot be considered the "motherland" of the 113-year-old Republic of China (ROC, 中華民國) citizens.
Seasoned media professional Huang Wei-han (黃暐瀚) supported Lai's assertion, stating that the logic was correct and echoed his views over the past two years.
Huang pointed out that the controversy stems from the belief that such statements need not be vocalized rather than any inaccuracy in the content.
He analyzed past presidents' styles and noted that Lai prefers a direct approach. He confronts the misconception head-on by stating that the PRC is not Taiwan's "motherland."
Huang also shared three touching moments from the gala, including a 20,000-strong national anthem chorus, a speech by Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), and a performance by Jody Chiang (江蕙).
