TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Presidential Office (總統府) clarified Monday (Sept. 30) that the military's use of "ancestral home" in personnel resumes follows a long-established format, not a new requirement by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德).
The asking of "ancestral home" indicates the place of origin of one's extended family. Starting in September, President Lai has personally presided over monthly ceremonies for the promotion of generals.
Reports suggested that the military included the location of applicants' "ancestral home" in resumes to provide President Lai with background information on each promoted officer.
Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) stated that the Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) submitted the data forms according to the military's long-standing format.
Kuo urged the media to avoid misrepresenting the facts, which could mislead the public and harm military morale.
