TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists predict Taiwan will face significant rainfall from Friday (Sept. 20) through next Monday (Sept. 23) due to the outer moisture bands of a typhoon.

Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) explained that Taiwan remains on the outskirts of a large low-pressure zone, with winds gradually shifting to a northeasterly direction.

This will bring continued moisture, causing brief showers in the northern and eastern regions, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula. The central and southern parts of Taiwan may also experience localized thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Wu added that Tropical Storm Pulasan (葡萄桑) is currently near Guam, and another tropical depression in the South China Sea is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Soulik (蘇力) Wednesday (Sept. 18).

Although these systems are unlikely to directly hit Taiwan, experts warn that the island will enter a wetter environment and should remain vigilant.

A social media page dedicated to weather forecasts noted that though the typhoons aren't coming, rain is unavoidable. The two tropical systems moving westward will push the entire low-pressure zone toward Taiwan, leading to increased rainfall after Thursday.

Wu added that from Friday to next Tuesday, southern moisture will move northward, causing unstable atmospheric conditions and more rain.

He highlighted that Friday and Saturday will be hot during the day, with localized showers or thunderstorms in southern Taiwan and a high chance of severe thunderstorms in the western regions in the afternoon.

From Sunday to next Tuesday, scattered showers or thunderstorms will occur across the island, with a risk of severe thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and sudden downpours.

The weather page advised people with post-Mid-Autumn Festival plans to pay close attention to weather updates and changes.
