TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Ministry of State Security (國家安全部) published an article on Monday (Sept. 9) emphasizing the Taiwan issue as the primary red line in U.S.-China relations. The article outlined four unchanging principles, five key points, and three "nos" to underscore China's stance.
In the article, Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) reiterated the four unchanging principles, including China's commitment to the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of U.S.-China relations and its firm stance on safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
Since last year, U.S. and Chinese officials have engaged in four rounds of strategic communication in Vienna, Malta, Bangkok, and Beijing. During these talks, China proposed five key points to maintain stable relations.
The Ministry of State Security introduced three "nos" to build a "firewall" in U.S.-China relations, with the Taiwan issue being the foremost red line. The article stressed that Taiwan belongs to China and that China will inevitably unify the island. It labeled Taiwanese independence as the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and urged the U.S. to honor its commitment to not support Taiwanese independence.
The Ministry warned, "We will respond to the reckless provocations of the Taiwan independence forces," and emphasized that China's sovereignty is indisputable, reaffirming its territorial claims over the South China Sea islands.
The article concluded by expressing hope that the U.S. would view China's development as an opportunity rather than a challenge and push for stable and progressive U.S.-China relations.
