TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC, 國家安全會議) Lin Fei-fan (林飛帆) reported a series of false accusations and disinformation attacks to the police on Thursday (Aug. 8).
Lin, 36, revealed that he has faced these attacks since the inauguration of President Lai Ching-te's administration on May 20, and vowed to take a firm stance against such misinformation.
Lin, recently added to China's list of "to be punished Taiwanese independence activists," responded late Thursday to allegations that he had solicited prostitutes and received a salary higher than ministerial levels. He shared on the social media platform "Threads" that Chinese authorities listed him eighth on their punitive list just before Father's Day.
False information about Lin began circulating online, including claims from various Facebook groups, alleging that Lin was arrested for soliciting prostitutes and that his salary as deputy secretary-general was as high as NT$250,000.
Lin noted that this was not the first time he faced such attacks. Previously, fake accounts alleged he was the love child of former Presidents Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Lee Teng-hui (李登輝), and that he had dined with Chinese spy Wang Liqiang (王立強). Last year, political figures falsely accused him of election-related loan fraud, which he disproved by showing he had no loans.
The NSC deputy secretary-general expressed gratitude to friends who promptly informed him about the disinformation, enabling swift responses and police reports. He emphasized the importance of protecting Taiwan's media environment from such attacks.
