TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je's (柯文哲) spouse, Peggy Chen (陳佩琪), emphasized Friday (Sept. 6) that the couple has no unexplained sources of wealth.
Authorities detained Ko in the Taipei Detention Center (台北看守所) due to his involvement in a corruption case linked to the Core Pacific City (京華城) redevelopment.
Chen stated that she has provided the Agency Against Corruption (廉政署) with all financial records, including bankbooks now under seizure. She hoped prosecutors would not link her transaction history with Ko's administrative decisions.
Chen reiterated that Ko had no authority over the floor area ratio decisions related to the Core Pacific City project, as professionals handled these matters. She compared Ko's tenure as mayor to his career as a doctor, asserting that he always acted in the best interest of the citizens.
Chen also refuted allegations made by Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) Taipei City Councilor Chung Hsiao-ping (鍾小平). Chung accused Ko of having close ties with Core Pacific Group (晶威集團) Chairman Sheen Ching-jing (沈慶京) and an associated gang. Chen dismissed these claims as baseless.
