TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former vice presidential hopeful Chao Shao-kang (趙少康) on Friday (Sept. 6) urged the Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) to advocate for judicial fairness over Core Pacific City (京華城) case.

The Taipei District Court (台北地方法院) on Thursday detained former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) over allegations of corruption in the Core Pacific City redevelopment. Chao stated straightforwardly that the case obviously involves profiteering.

However, Chao criticized the judiciary for not addressing several other cases, citing the Ultra Source (超思) egg scandal.

During the 2023 avian flu outbreak, Ultra Source, a company with a capital of just NT$500,000 and only one year old, imported over 80 million eggs from Brazil, accounting for 50% of total egg imports. This raised suspicions of government favoritism towards the company.

More importantly, Chao questioned why the Core Pacific City case, which sparked controversy three to four years ago, had yet to be investigated earlier. He speculated that Ko's higher popularity might have been a factor then. Chao concluded that the situation resembled a political witch hunt.

Chao emphasized that while the KMT should refrain from commenting on the case's specifics, it must call for impartiality in the judiciary and ensure that all scandals across Taiwan are thoroughly investigated.
