TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Newly-appointed Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) announced on Thursday (Aug. 29) his top three priorities once he assumes the new role.

"First, I will respect professional expertise. Second, I will respect myself and learn quickly and diligently. Third, I will manage the ministry's affairs with dedication."

Chen explained that if the process goes smoothly, he will officially assume the role of Minister of Transportation and Communications next Monday (Sept. 2).

He previously served as the chief of staff for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌). Regarding the possibility of being questioned by his former boss, Chen admitted he would feel nervous but expressed confidence that Tsai would provide valuable insights and tips about the transportation sector.

Chen, who has had extensive experience in local transportation from his years of service in the Taichung City Council, is well-versed in political science and business management.

Premier Cho and President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) both expressed their belief that he is capable of handling the position. Chen will replace former Minister Li Men-yen (李孟諺), who resigned following an extramarital affair scandal.

Observers will closely watch Chen's performance in this critical role, especially given the circumstances of his predecessor's departure.
