TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) warned on Thursday (Aug. 29) that temperatures across Taiwan could reach between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, with Taipei and Taitung potentially exceeding 36 degrees Celsius. The CWA advised residents to stay hydrated during outdoor activities due to the oppressive heat.
Western Taiwan and Kinmen may experience scattered showers, while most regions, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, will see partly cloudy to clear skies starting in the daytime. The likelihood of thunderstorms will increase in the afternoon.
The CWA noted that near mountainous areas, there is also a chance of brief afternoon thunderstorms, with some regions possibly experiencing heavy rain, and advised carrying rain gear when venturing out after noon.
The CWA also cautioned about the possibility of long waves along the northern coast of Keelung, northeastern Taiwan, eastern Taiwan, and Matsu. Fog or low clouds could affect visibility in Kinmen and Matsu during the night and early morning, potentially impacting travel. Travelers should monitor flight information closely.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Shanshan is currently affecting Kyushu, Japan. The typhoon, having made landfall in Kyushu, is moving northeast towards Shikoku, extending its impact on western Japan. The CWA urged those planning to travel to Japan to stay updated on the typhoon's progress and check flight information.
