TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) warned on Tuesday (June 18) of increased rainfall and high temperatures across Taiwan.
The CWA cautioned that the afternoon effects of thermal heating could intensify rainfall, particularly in the Greater Taipei Area, the northeastern regions, and mountainous areas north of central Taiwan.
An orange heat alert was also issued for Taitung, indicating temperatures could reach a consistent 36 degrees Celsius.
The CWA also noted that thunderstorms might develop in the afternoon due to thermal effects in the northern regions, with the possibility of local heavy rain in Yilan County, Hualien County, and other mountainous areas.
Temperature readings across the regions are forecasted to range between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing even higher temperatures.
The southeastern region may also experience a foehn wind, which can create a muggy heat sensation. The CWA advised the public to take precautions against intense ultraviolet rays around noon and to stay hydrated.
According to weather expert Lin Te-en (林得恩), the plum rain season in South China and Taiwan, typically from mid-May to mid-June, has officially ended early, paving the way for the upcoming typhoon season.
