TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's mixed doubles badminton team, Ye Hong-wei (葉宏蔚) and Lee Chia-hsin (李佳馨), faced elimination after losing two matches in the group stage at the Olympics Games on Sunday (July 28) Paris time. The duo, competing in their first Olympics, struggled against strong opponents from Japan and Hong Kong.
Ye and Lee lost their first match to Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man (鄧俊文) and Tse Ying Suet (謝影雪). On Sunday, they were defeated by Japan's Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino with scores of 14-21, 13-21.
Lee attributed their loss to the targeted strategies employed by their opponents, stating, "It's pretty good to be able to get this far," Central News Agency (CNA) reported.
Lee acknowledged the challenges of Olympic-level competition, noting that every country has specific training regimens for the games. She stated that she thinks she may be a little inadequate in this regard. Compared with other countries, the athlete claimed she still does not have such a complete preparation model.
Ye, who recently recovered from a high fever, commented on the differences between the Olympics and other tournaments, according to CNA.
He noted that opponents make fewer mistakes and employ more sophisticated techniques at the Olympics. Fans and supporters will be watching closely to see how this young team evolves and rises to future challenges.
