TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese "boxing queen" Chen Nien-chin (陳念琴) secured a significant victory in the women's boxing 66kg round of 16 early Monday (July 29) Taiwan time. She defeated Dominican boxer María Moronta with a score of 4-1, advancing to the next round.
Chen narrowly led Moronta 3-2 in the first round. She regained her form in the second round, earning 10 points from four judges. In the third round, she decisively won with a 4-1 score.
Before the match, Chen confidently stated, "I don't need to say it, I definitely want the gold medal! The best thing I can do is to prepare my state and mindset to present the best version of myself."
This marks Chen's third Olympic appearance, following her participation in Rio and Tokyo. In Tokyo, she reached the quarterfinals, setting a personal best.
Chen will face Brazilian boxer Barbara Maria dos Santos in the round of 16 on Aug. 1.
Representing Taiwan in women's boxing, Chen carries the nation's hopes of winning its first women's boxing gold medal.
