TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Gaemi (颱風凱米) wreaked havoc across Taiwan, leaving a trail of destruction that resulted in 10 deaths, 2 missing persons, and 897 injuries, the Central Emergency Operation Center (CEOC, 中央災害應變中心) reported on Sunday (July 28).

The CEOC revealed that the storm caused 15,775 incidents nationwide, with agricultural losses nearing NT$1.8 billion, and emphasized the need to strengthen environmental recovery efforts to prevent outbreaks of diseases like dengue fever.

As of 8 a.m. Sunday, 942 incidents remained unresolved, including 7,108 cases of fallen trees and 3,900 cases affecting essential infrastructure.

The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA, 農業部) noted that the total damage to agriculture, forestry, fishery, and animal husbandry stood at approximately NT$1.79 billion. Agricultural products such as bananas, guavas, and pears accounted for the largest share of losses, totaling about NT$1.25 billion.

Additionally, the typhoon caused power outages for 871,914 households nationwide, with 3,506 still without electricity. Authorities estimate that power will be restored by noon on July 29.

The storm also damaged 508 base stations, of which 111 are still awaiting repairs, and disrupted landline services for 1,815 households, of which 87 still needed restoration.
