TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Chinese Culture University on Yangmingshan in Taipei shifted all Wednesday (Oct. 4) classes to remote online teaching amid intensified rainfall and wind in the northern and eastern regions.
Despite the arrival of Typhoon Koinu, Taipei hasn't announced a typhoon holiday, leading to some online users questioning the school's decision.
Due to safety concerns, the school transitioned to remote teaching a day earlier when wind speeds on Yangmingshan exceeded levels 5 to 6. By Wednesday morning, wind speeds reached approximately level 7, at 14.1 m/s.
In response to media reports of students hoarding food, the Chinese Culture University stated that no panic buying was observed after dispatching representatives to inspect convenience stores and supermarkets near the campus.
They also noted an adequate food supply in stores and urged the public not to spread false rumors, causing unnecessary panic.
