TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Koinu is expected to make landfall near Taitung on Thursday morning (Oct. 5) amid severe wind and rain, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The effects of Typhoon Koinu will be felt across Taiwan, with the most significant impact over the next two days. Rain is forecasted from Hsinchu to Keelung and in Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula.
However, southern Taiwan, shielded by the Central Mountain Range, will receive less rainfall, though strong winds are expected, particularly in coastal and open areas, possibly reaching level seven.
Regarding the eventuality of "typhoon holidays," the likelihood is highest for Taitung, Hualien, Pingtung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Penghu on Thursday, considering the anticipated weather conditions.
The CWA estimates that the land warning will be lifted on Friday, with marine warnings remaining in effect until Saturday.
