TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Officials from Taiwan's leading political parties, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Kuomintang (KMT), are questioning the motives behind a controversial incident involving an individual who faked death threats.
Lin Yu-hung, known as an "egg critic," recently admitted to fabricating threats he claimed were aimed at him due to his criticism of the DPP's egg import policies.
DPP legislator Cheng Yun-peng expressed suspicion, suggesting that Lin may have been operating undercover within the DPP, raising concerns about potential consequences for the party as the situation escalates.
Acting Agriculture Minister Chen Junne-jih emphasized respecting the ongoing judicial investigation. He clarified that the Ministry of Agriculture would not file a lawsuit against Lin as his actions were unrelated to the ministry's responsibilities.
Premier Chen Chien-jen also stressed the need for rational discussions and urged against making unfounded assumptions. He emphasized the importance of concrete evidence in the case.
Legislator Tseng Ming-chung acknowledged that a KMT employee, Hsu Che-pin, had carelessly formed connections, leading to the controversy. Tseng took personal responsibility for inadequate oversight and expressed embarrassment.
Lin Kuan-yu, head of the KMT Culture and Communications Committee, asserted that there was no need to amplify the case's visibility unnecessarily. He characterized the relationship between the two individuals involved as purely personal.
