MIAOLI (TVBS News) — There is a new type of scam in Taiwan involving unsolicited parcels. The number of these scams has been increasing recently.

Victims are being notified via SMS to collect packages they did not order from local convenience stores.

A resident of Miaoli was recently surprised to receive a parcel from a company called "ATK Marco." The package demanded payment upon receipt, even though the recipient had not ordered anything from the company.

Police have warned that this is a common tactic used by scam syndicates that send unsolicited packages and require payment upon delivery. The sender's name is often a code, making identifying and tracking the scammers difficult.

A clerk at a convenience store revealed that the name "X018019" often appears on scam packages.

He Wen-hui, captain of the Criminal Investigation Division of Miaoli County, has warned the public to be cautious and not to accept suspicious packages.

He advised people to verify the sender's source before accepting their orders. This warning is a reminder for the public to be vigilant, particularly as online purchasing becomes more prevalent.
