TAIPEI (TVBS News) — YouBike has pledged to provide NT$500 YouBike 2.0 riding vouchers to over 40,000 victims in its compensation plan following security breaches in May of this year. Users are expected to receive the vouchers via member accounts by 6 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 22).
Expressing commitment to fulfill its corporate social responsibility and moral obligation, YouBike announced a day earlier that affected members would receive the riding coupon later today.
YouBike has specified that the vouchers will remain valid until Dec. 31, 2024. Members can use the vouchers with both card swiping and QR code scanning, as long as they are under the same member account.
As Taiwan's prominent public bike rental service, YouBike has bolstered system security by implementing multiple cybersecurity measures, including increasing password complexity, imposing stricter login attempts, and introducing anti-robot verification mechanisms.
To prevent future scams, YouBike has issued a reminder to all members to regularly review and renew their passwords and avoid using the same password across different platforms. In the event of receiving suspicious calls, emails, or texts requesting payments, users should refrain from following any instructions.
In May, YouBike experienced two successive cyberattacks, compromising the personal information of over 40,000 members. The company responded promptly by logging out all members from its official website as a precautionary measure and vowed to enhance its system.
